Do you ever find yourself feeling like everything piles on right when you wake up in the morning? This might be because you are not setting yourself up for success. Here are some simple tips to help you maximize your day, before it even starts.

A rolling to - do list

Start by always having a continuing to-do list. Checking things off of your list during the day can help you feel extremely productive, but you should not pressure yourself to get absolutely everything done. When you set an unrealistic goal, you will not feel that your day is as fulfilled as it could be. By allowing yourself to roll some tasks to the next day, you automatically go into the day with a little bit of structure- which helps to feel like you are in control of the tasks at hand.

Keep track of how much time it takes you to complete a task

We have all found ourselves spending far too much time on one task. Next time you are about to start a task, start a timer on your phone. Work on the task and then check the time on the timer the first time you get distracted. If you do this a couple of times, you will be able to find your average

attention span. As time goes on and you know how much time you are able to work without a distraction, start to set small goals for yourself. For example, if you break your day into time blocks, each for an hour of work at a time with a 5-10 minute break in between, you will be able to maximize your time without feeling completely wiped out at the end of the day.

Meal/Home prep the night before

Set yourself up for success in the home or office. Think about the things that always throw your day for a loop or will allow you to get distracted. Some of these may be deciding what to make for lunch, getting household chores done rather than work or getting out of the workspace at any chance you get. In order to ease distractions, you can help yourself the night before, after you have wrapped up work for the day. Something as simple as prepping a breakfast or lunch or doing 30 minutes of housework before bed can help minimize the distractions during your work day.

Some of my favorite tools I use to keep my days organized include having a clean & orderly calendar, stocking my fridge with grab-and-go lunches and sticking to a laundry/cleaning schedule every week.
